Most failed Cape Byron mornings start with an annual pass and a two-hour loop plan, then only one hour of parking at the lighthouse (NPWS calls that grass pad the lawn — it is a car park).

Walk or cycle from Byron to the lighthouse for first light. No vehicle fee. No 1-hour cap. Stairs and a dark start are the cost. Linger at the marker; reverse to town or continue a loop section only if legs allow.

Is Walgun Cape Byron a national park?
No. It is an NPWS State Conservation Area. Arakwal National Park and Cape Byron Marine Park sit next door — this guide does not cover those reserves. Verify on the official SCA page.
Does an NPWS annual pass cover all-day parking at the lighthouse?
No. NPWS visitor notes (re-checked 27 Aug 2026): lighthouse lawn car park $10 per vehicle per hour / $4 motorcycles, maximum 1 hour per vehicle per calendar day including all annual passholders. Confirm live. Walk-in avoids the vehicle charge.
How long do I need?
60–90 minutes for the precinct if you drive (you only have one paid hour). Half a day for the 3.7 km Grade 3 loop. This is not a 3-day wilderness. Overnight is Byron Bay town, or official NPWS cottages.
Can I camp here?
No conventional campground. Heritage keepers’ cottages are official NPWS bookings only — never affiliated here.
