About this guide

www.walguncapebyron.com.au is an independent, unofficial visitor guide for Walgun Cape Byron State Conservation Area — not a national park. Dual name: Walgun (Bundjalung / Arakwal, often glossed as “shoulder”) / Cape Byron. Most visitors come for the lighthouse, the most-easterly marker, and a 3.7 km Grade 3 loop — with a 1-hour lighthouse car park cap if they drive.

We are not NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), the NSW Government, Destination NSW, Byron Shire Council, Arakwal Corporation, Cape Byron Marine Park managers, or any commercial café, tour or cottage operator unless explicitly stated.

We acknowledge Arakwal / Bundjalung people and their continuing connection to this headland. This site does not speak for Traditional Owners or for NPWS. We do not invent ceremony or stories. Prefer official wording from NPWS and Arakwal Corporation.

Help people plan a crowded lighthouse headland honestly — 1-hour lighthouse-car-park rule, walk-in from Byron, a morning or half-day — while funding free guides through clearly disclosed ads and affiliates. Parking fees and official NPWS cottage bookings are never affiliated.

What this site is (and is not)

A practical planning guide for a crowded lighthouse headland next to Byron Bay town. Not a booking engine, not a live alerts board, not a 3-day national-park itinerary. Adjacent Arakwal National Park and Cape Byron Marine Park are other reserves — we do not build them here.

How we work (accuracy policy)

We synthesise publicly available park facts from NSW National Parks, cross-check the parking clock, walk-from-town vs drive, and the 3.7 km loop against official visitor notes, then write practical decision frameworks. We do not invent live track status, guaranteed open/closed claims, or treat parking dollars as permanent law.

  • Fees, hours and open/closed status must be verified on the official SCA page before you travel. We don’t list live closures here.
  • Site-wide review: . Written from official NPWS notes — not a claim we walked every metre on that date.
  • No public contact email — see Contact.
