Palm Valley Currenbah walking track
Guide updated · verify live track status with NSW National Parks
NPWS lists Palm Valley Currenbah as a separate walking track in this SCA. Use it as a shorter option. Do not invent distance. Confirm the official page.
Do not pair: Do not treat this as a substitute for checking the main loop’s alerts — or as a wilderness add-on after a lighthouse-car-park ticket.
Turnaround: Reverse at the first unsigned or closed section.
- Assuming it is the 3.7 km loop under another name.
- Inventing a distance or grade because the official page was not opened.
- Shorter / easier signed option than the 3.7 km loop — verify grade live
- Short section — confirm live
- Confirm on NPWS (short linking track)
- Effort: easy
- Best for: A gentler signed section when the full loop is too much
Distance, grade, time and open/closed status change — verify on NSW National Parks before you go.
Official NPWS info (verify status)
Where you start
Palm Valley / signed NPWS start
Follow NPWS visitor info for the current start and parking node. This is not “the 3.7 km loop with a different sign.” Confirm the track name on official maps and on-site arrows before you commit.
How to get there
- Do not assume this start is free of hourly parking. Check which pay node you are using (lighthouse car park vs The Pass / Cosy Corner / Bawaii).
- Walk-from-town still avoids vehicle fees. Allow extra time if you are linking from the beach corridor.
- If the nearest node is full, do not verge-park. Reverse to town or skip.
- Download or screenshot the official Palm Valley page; do not rely on this blog for metres.
How to do it (step by step)
- Open the official Palm Valley Currenbah page. Copy signed distance and grade from there, not from memory or from the 3.7 km loop page.
- Walk the signed section only. Turn around at the first unsigned or closed stretch.
- If it is closed, default to lookouts from The Pass or the lighthouse precinct (on a walk-in or a legal parking clock).
- Do not treat a stroller-looking photo on NPWS as a promise for your date. Confirm accessibility live.
- Pair with The Pass / Wategos precinct notes — not with a lighthouse-car-park-ticket loop.
What to expect
A shorter signed walk in the same SCA. NPWS is the source for distance and grade. This page exists so the trail hub is not a single-card stub, and so visitors do not invent a second loop.
Not walked. Confirm alerts and the official visitor-info panel before you treat it as pram-friendly.
Bangalow / palm context is the usual photo. That does not make it a boardwalk. Stick to the signed alignment.
This is not the 3.7 km loop
Walgun Cape Byron walking track is the Grade 3 3.7 km circuit. Palm Valley Currenbah is listed separately by NPWS. Mixing the two is how people start a harder loop than they packed for — or skip a gentler option they actually wanted.
If you want the lighthouse postcard only, use the precinct guide. If you want the signature circuit, open the 3.7 km trail page and match a start to the parking clock.
Parking still has a clock
Vehicle fees follow the node you parked at, not the name of this walk. Lawn = 1-hour cap including annual pass. The Pass / Cosy Corner / Bawaii = $5/hour (confirm live). Walk-in skips the vehicle charge.
Do not start here on a lighthouse-car-park ticket you already burned. Reverse to a node you can legally finish at.
Kids, prams and honesty
This is the easier signed option relative to the full loop — still confirm grade, steps and closures live. NPWS imagery is not a guarantee that your date is stroller-smooth.
Supervise near vegetation and any drop-offs. Shared paths get busy. If the group is done, reverse. That is a complete walk.
What to pair (and what not to)
Strong pairs: The Pass / Wategos precinct, a look-and-leave at the lighthouse if you walked in. Weak pairs: stacking this plus the full loop plus hinterland on a lighthouse-car-park ticket.
Cultural material at The Pass midden: look, do not disturb. This site does not speak for Traditional Owners. Official SCA page and Arakwal Corporation for wording.
Packing list (shell, grip, water) lives on the gear hub— not as a merch wall on every walk. Pairing and Plan B: plan your visit · 1-hour lighthouse car park Plan B.

Extra tips
- NPWS photos show a formed path used with a stroller in places — that is not a promise for your date.
- Confirm alerts on both this track and the main loop. Closures are independent.
- The Pass midden is a conservation program — look, do not disturb, do not invent ceremony.
- Cottage beach cuts are a separate erosion alert — not this signed walk.
Often paired with Lighthouse lawn car park— only if energy and weather allow.

Three products, not a wilderness catalogue. Match the start to the parking clock — do not stack hinterland after this.
moderate · 1–3 hours (NPWS suggested; allow ~2 hours to do it properly)
Walgun Cape Byron walking track
The NPWS 3.7 km Grade 3 loop through bangalow palms and burrawangs, kangaroo grassland, beach and clifftops to Cape Byron Lighthouse. Multiple access points. Parking is the usual failure, not fitness.
easy · 60–90 minutes if you drive (1-hour vehicle cap); longer if you walk in
Cape Byron Lighthouse precinct
The postcard stop: Cape Byron Lighthouse, lawn car park, most-easterly marker, Information Centre and museum hours. Drive it only if one hour is enough. Walk-in if you want to linger.
